What is it?
Polio is a virus from the family Picornoiviridae which attacks the muscles and causes them to waste away.

What are its symptoms?
Muscle and joint pain
Fatigue
Breathing problems
Difficulty breathing during sleep

A person that gets polio is immune to being infected again by the virus type that caused the polio.
How does polio infect you?
It infects your motor neurons which is what makes your muscles not work.
Is it contagious?
Yes, it can be transmitted by saliva or respiration droplets.
Can polio be treated in any way?
There is no treatment for polio itself, but the symptoms CAN be treated while your body fights the virus. Medicines include Ibuprophen and Acetaminophen. Fluids and rest also help. It usually takes two to ten days to go away.
